REGISTRATION
OF VEHICLE Recording
the name and address of the owner and details of the vehicle in an
official list after which a registration mark is issued in the form of a
series of letters and numbers by the registering authority. 1)
PROCEDURE : A
vehicle owner must apply for registration within 7 days from the date of
delivery. a)
Filled in application (Form no. 20) b)
Sales Certificate in original (Form no. 21) supplied by the
dealer/seller at the time of delivery of vehicle c)
Road Worthiness Certificate (Form no. 22) supplied by manufacturer
and also given by dealer at the time of delivery of vehicle d)
Valid Insurance Certificate (attested copy) e)
Proof of Residence f)
Customs Clearance Certificate in case the vehicle is imported g)
Challan Receipt h)
Affidavit on Rs. 3/- Non-judicial Stamp paper i)
Chassis Pencil print. Now
that you have completed the above formalities your vehicle, if it is a
private car, has a registration which is valid for 15 years and the same
can be renewed thereafter for 5 years subject to vehicles road worthiness
for transport vehicles the validity is also for 15 years but it must
always carry with it a valid fitness certificate. This fitness certificate
is for a period of 2 years for a new vehicle and can be renewed thereafter
every year. 2)
TEMPORARY REGISTRATION: One
can obtain a temporary registration for a period of 1 month and the same
is not renewable.
If a motor vehicle is temporarily registered and is a chassis to
which a body has not been attached and the same is detained in a workshop
beyond the set period of 1 month then further extension(s) may be granted
by the registering authority. 3)
CHANGE OF ADDRESS : The
owner of the vehicle must inform the concerned registering authority if he
has changed his residence / business premises within 30 days. If the new
address is in the jurisdiction of another registering authority then both
authorities have to be informed. If the owner of the vehicle has shifted temporarily to another state for a period of more than 3 months he must inform the new registering authority. If the shifting is for a period of more than 1 year then he has to apply for a new registration number.
